Suchitra Sen
You must be wondering what brought Suchitra Sen to Bengal Music College. Yes. She took lessons in music regularly at the Bengal Music College.
Suchitra Sen remembered those days so well – the evenings we would walk down to Bengal Music College for our music sessions. Those were the days when she did not come to be mobbed by her fans in public. So had a nice time ambling down our way and of course gossiping a lot. I was the playback singer in two of her well known films-‘ Grihadaha ‘ and Smriti tuku thak’.
Time passed. She grew in stature. I was sure she had forgotten our good old days. Then one day, I met her at the Indra Puri studio. Debabrata Biswas and I were there for our play back songs in Ritwik Ghatak’s Komal Gandhar. Suddenly I saw her coming out of her room. Seeing me, she stopped. ‘How are your music sessions going on’, she asked. ‘Seems you have put on a lot of weight’. Taken aback, I replied, ‘I never imagined you would recognize me.’ In an ever friendly gesture she said Weren’t we friends on our way to Bengal Music College? How can I forget?’
Later I told Debabrata Biswas about my meeting with Suchitra Sen. He regretted having missed the chance to meet the star as did my husband who too was with me at the studio.
Indeed for them, it was a miss to rue upon.’
